{a tiny little painting}...

Finally had sometime to do a little painting.  And considering I am painting

entire rooms in my house this really is tiny.

This is the original painting and below

 is another after being altered in PSE.

I'm experimenting a bit with a different style in hair.   She's a little 5X6. 

 I have a large canvas and I'm thinking

perhaps I could do a really large painting

as I am feeling a bit more convenient in my painting abilities.

And seeing how I got the canvas at the Goodwill and learning that

you just keep painting over and over, layer after layer  until you get something you like.

What do I have to lose?

{ok, so I was just wanting to relax}...

and feeling like trying something new in PSE.  So a bit of

layering on the painting from the previous post.

It's not exactly what I set out to try. But I just went with it.  (I'm a bit sleepy too}.

 And while I was playing around I started doing a little what ifing and thought I might try using

just the eyes, nose or mouth on some project.  So these might be showing

up on some art doll or maybe even on a small quilt.

Just being ~ playing around with a bit of face painting.

This time using watercolor pencils and acrylics.  I used acrylics mostly because I got impatient with the watercolor.  But will continue to practice with them. Maybe with flowers

or animals as I would not need to be so concerned with flesh colors.

Below is the back label of the Be True Art Quilt.

As you can see from the pins on the binding I still need to do the hand stitching.

I've tried the "stitching in the ditch" method but it never looks all that great

on the back to me.  And I have to go really slow on the front to get it perfect.

So I am ok with doing the hand stitching.

 And the front. 

 I did choose to go more with the folded fabric shape for the dress.

I am so thrilled with being able to use one of my facing paintings on a quilt.

It's one of the many things I love about the Art Quilt.  So much is possible.

I just need more time to create all of the ideas and images I have in my head just

waiting to become an art quilt, journal or some other piece.  I still have many more face paintings ( I wish I had a better way to describe these paintings.  Portrait paintings seem  to formal and face paintings are not quite right either. ANYBODY have a better name)? Anyway, I digress.  

Another quilt with a face will have to wait a bit. What I have in mind for the next quilt

is of a single flower.  And it will not wait.

So before we get snowed in again I'm off to the quilt shop to check out some

fabric options.

{Sunday Afternoon Painting}...

Life is slowly getting back to a quieter pace.

So after getting out the Christmas decorations

I found a bit of time this afternoon to paint.

I am starting to be more relaxed in my paintings.  Feeling more confident

in my ability to complete a painting.  Hair is still an issue for me. 

I my still add a bit here and there but she mostly ready to become an

art journal.

New portrait painting.

I have focused on eyes, noses, and lips.

Thinking they would be the most difficult. I admit noses can be the trickiest.

But hair has proven even more so.

Luckily I prefer less to more.

And even like messier portraits but somehow I have

gotten a method down that makes my ladies

a bit to polished I think.

Don't get me wrong I still like them.

But I also want something a bit more rough around the edges.

Here she is before adding her hair.  I may try printing her out from PSE and then

trying out new hair "styles" on her.  That way I don't have to

spend all the time painting (and still stressing) over painting her face.

Could be fun

{New Portrait...}

Practice with darker colors and layering.

I'm feeling a bit more confident and just started layering

one layer of paint over another and another.  Also painting with the eyes

lowered.  I have waited to do closed eyes until I had some

practice painting eyes.  I didn't want to get stuck only painting "no eyes".

{Weekend Going On's...}

Took some time for art this weekend

first a new portrait painting.

I say took some time because along with visiting with friends, gardening and 

 taking some time to relax I have also installed a new

printer, as my old one died.  I stepped up a notch and

bought a printer that can printer larger sizes.  Not jumbo

mind you but 13x19.  More to come on that.

And then my laptop fan broke so before

the heat kills it I also got a new laptop.

Still moving everything from the old

one to the new one.  Not quit done with that whole thing

but easier now than after the computer dies.

{New Portrait Painting...}

New portrait painting.

Cropped and mostly ready to become an art journal cover.

I could have used this painting for my own art journal

but I have been saving several paintings from other artists

for a few years now that I

bought just for making an art journal.

I cropped the original even closer in PSE

to see how it would look.  PSE makes it really easy to play

with additional cropping  and still preserve the

original if I prefer.  Can't undo a cropped on the original.

A medium size face with arms. Not ready to try hands yet. I my do hands by pasting.

She is just on paper so will probably be an inside page rather than a cover. I still want to ad some embellishment and words.

New Face Painting

Practicing more faces.

This time a small face. I love two styles. DJ Pettit's and Misty Mawn's. It was great that last year I was so fortunate to be able to take a class with DJ in Phoenix. I have not yet had the opportunity to take one with Misty. But I just jumped in on my own using articles in Cloth, Paper Scissors magazine of Misty's.
